I am still going to have a finished piece of art and a finished piece of writing by Feb. 2nd.

But... I have a new idea. At the mention of writing a novel in [livejournal.com profile] metikulos and [livejournal.com profile] shellefly's journals, I got back on my own "I should soooo write a novel" kick. I'm actually still playing Dungeons and Dragons (I know I know - I'm a dork - but from what I'm told- that's 'in' these days) at www.NexusCity.net which is a play-by-post forum. I like the way play-by-post works as it leaves me free to play by my own schedule. I never have to worry about what the rest of the group is doing. What's more - play by post systems seem (in my limited experience) to be more focused on role-play than on roll-play. That is to say that there's more of a concerted effort made towards immersion into characters and setting than on rules and regulations.

Which makes it great practice for writing.

Don't get me wrong - there's nothing that I have posted at nexuscity that I would think of as 'book-worthy' - but it keeps the proverbial juices flowing. And I like my character there. In fact, I like him enough that I started brainstorming at work today. I was in the van, and driving down the road, and the idea hit me - "What if Arenir..." and I was off. Ideas came like a tidal wave and I just let them crash into me.

Now I'm feeling inspired. I'm going to sit here and jot down some notes and see what I can come up with, and perhaps I'll have a sample for you nice folks soon. Keep your fingers crossed - this may just work.
