Okay, so perhaps that's a bit on the melodramatic side. It can and does damage though. What do I mean? Well I am glad you asked. All right- well I am going to tell you even if you _didn't_ ask. Smart ass.

I have been after Mike for years to let me do a website for the diner. Not something that would require anything from him. Nothing. He would just have to pay me to do it, and let it exist. That's it. I think that it would make him money. Or rather it would have. I don't know now that "times have changed", but it would have. Anything and everything from t-shirt sales through community auctions. All he had to do was say go.

But he's terrified of computers.

And now another Mike. We have a website. He paid (I'm sure) a small fortune for it. It's crap.

You actually went to that site didn't you? You freak.

Anyway. I told him: "Let me do it. I will have it _completed_ top to bottom - and back again in ONE WEEKEND. Don't pay me if you're worried about that - we'll figure something out later."

"We have other things that are more important to worry about right now. Higher priority items." was all he would say.

He was told by other people - people that he respects (his words) that I was right- that it's worse to have up a crap website than to not have one at all. And there it sits.

Today? I was working on a gate operator. Working on this thing was _infuriating_ as we had no wiring diagram or manual of any kind. Thank the gods we were kicked off the job because of the rain. And so, I come home, jump on the net and voila! Hy Security has a website! What do you know? On that new-fangled thing called a website - they have the EXACT manual / diagram that I could have used today and it would have saved us MANY HOURS of pulling the (precious few) hairs from my head.

But Mike's afraid of computers.

Anyone else here beginning to understand tonight's title?

Both Mikes are people that I respect greatly. Both are successful businessmen. I'm not trying to take anything from either of them. I _am_ however, frustrated to the verge of tears sometimes when I _know_ that I can help someone like that out tremendously and they just won't let me.

It's akin (though obviously to a much lesser degree) to when a doctor wants to help a small child with a problem, but the parents won't allow it due to religious reasons. I'll tell you what - I don't envy those doctors at all. They can keep the money.

On a completely separate note:

My friends rock. I was just sitting here tonight, frustrated and working on stuff that I am not getting paid for, and I flipped on my LiveJournal Friends screen. A quick read through [livejournal.com profile] januaree and [livejournal.com profile] kar0nas' livejournals, and I there I was - a smiling again.

It's good to have friends. It's better to have friends like mine.
