So I haven't been very prolific here in some time. My apologies for that - I know that you're waiting with bated breath for every word.

Okay, okay. /end sarcasm.

The point here, is that I'm home sick and  I've been working on my website, and think that it's nearly ready for 'public viewing'. I've also posted some new artwork. Just thought y'all might want to know.

1. My site is currently hosted by some clearly unprofessional hacks
2. They just received a large payment for my hosting fees. This despite the fact that I have decided to switch hosting over to a much better service as quickly as I am able to get the new revision of my site built for upload.
3. They shut off my site due to a billing error which I have since fixed.
4. When my site didn't come back up, I tried to call my current host's 800 number only to find it disconnected.
5. It's been several days and my site has not come up, and their phone is still disconnected.

I've logged a trouble ticket in the remote hopes that maybe they're still functioning on some level. Their fax machine still appears to be working (found through a quick whois lookup). I'll also try email, though I'm not holding my breathe for any of these to garner a response.

I would be fine with all of this except for the large payment they just received (>$100). That annoys me. A lot.

So you've probably all forgotten the little experiment that I started back in February.

Well I didn't. It was driving me nuts that I never did finish the portraits that I had promised. I had plenty of steam to do an hour on [livejournal.com profile] lafemmekatia's image.

I slowed down a bit and lost a bit of drive while working on [livejournal.com profile] theseitz's image of Rodney Dangerfield. I sucked it up and worked on him for a little over 1/2 hour. Poor Rodney. You've looked better buddy.

I have just finished (at long last) the image I promised for [livejournal.com profile] anisette_toast. I actually found this one coming together fairly quickly. There was a lot going on here tonight, and while I would think that should be an 'excuse' for why the image didn't turn out the way I wanted, it actually seemed to be the reverse. In just 1/2 hour (ok - maybe a touch more) I felt comfortable calling it a night.

So during 'Creativity Night' with [livejournal.com profile] xtingu and [livejournal.com profile] shellefly the topic of bios came up. I hate writing them, and have had to write a number of them for the different websites that I'm on. I'm really awful at writing about myself for promotional purposes and I need to do it for both myself and for some others.

I've done the obvious Google searches, but I just thought that I would turn this little dilemma out to you oh wizards of teh intarwebs. Do any of you know of a place with a good bit on writing artist related bios?

I never would have put the number this high, and I'm not too sure about the method that they use to get their numbers, but it was fun anyway.

It has nothing to do with the fact that it made me feel like someone's paying attention. Nothing at all...

My blog is worth $6,209.94.
How much is your blog worth?

The Dragonbones CrestSince my desktop has been down for a while now, I have been unable to finish the portraits I promised. Don't worry though - they're on their way. I've been spending the last several hours reformatting my desktop and installing fresh new XP stuff. I'm having a bit of a problem getting the sound to work, but I'll get there.

In the meantime, I've been drawing. I set up the drivers for my tablet on this laptop, and while it's not going to break any records for 'efficient use of resources', it will suffice to do a moderately small (read as: 'not print quality') image. Thus we have the thumbnail on the right. I look forward to hearing what you guys have to say about it. This may be the front page of the new version of my website. If so, it will likely have mouse-over effects etc for the different portions of the image (which would then link to different areas of the site).

Heya kids.

Just a quick note to let everyone know that I think that I am going to revert to a predominantly public journal again. For a long time I was doing almost exclusively private posts with the exclusion of art dumps and stuff that I specifically wanted out in the ether.

Why go back you ask? Well... today I was looking through old posts. As in - the first few posts I ever made in this journal. I really enjoyed the sense of just cracking open my ribcage and showing the world my guts. I stopped when I decided to embed this journal into the front page of my site in order to utilize it for 'news and updates'. I wanted to keep the length of that page to a minimum to keep it within the size constraints of an 800x600 viewable screen. I still wish to keep within the 800 parameter, but the 600 just seems a bit inefficient, so we're going back to not worrying about it.

Yes, I realize that I was posting pretty much exclusively for the every lovely [livejournal.com profile] kar0na and her most excellent husband [livejournal.com profile] metikulos at the time, but it's the concept that matters here. The concept that it was given freely and there for anyone to read if they chose to.

I will, of course, occasionally write a 'friends only' or 'private' post - but for the foreseeable future, it's back to being public for Yours Truly. If you would like to see what you've been missing and you have a livejournal account, feel free to friend me and let me know and I'll likely (though don't be offended if I decline) friend you back so that you can read the backdated stuff. (I won't be switching the friends only posts to public.)

Will the world really want to hear all of the rambling gunk that my friends have been subjected to as of late?

Probably not, but here it comes anyway. ;)

I've upgraded my gallery, which is why it kinda looks like crap right now. There shouldn't be a whole lot that you dear folks should see different (when it comes to functionality) and there's a second major upgrade coming soon to a Dragonbones.Net near you so I won't be 'prettying it up' just yet.

I do, however, welcome any and all comments that you might have about the new version of the gallery.

Enjoy!

Okay, actually got a decent amount done on my web site tonight:

Ben was most excellent in helping me to (read as: "he rewrote") the asp code for my gallery. Originally, the asp was creating 'crunched' versions of the original picture file. The made the thumbnails slow to download for anyone without a high-speed connection. What's more, it left me little choice in how the thumbnails looked, and I didn't like it. Now, however, the asp looks in a subdirectory for small-sized (and Matt - created) thumbnails, and uses them instead.

Next, I found the little line that I had to switch in order to make more than one line of thumbnails appear on the page at once.

Whew. I worked so hard. *grin*

THANK YOU BEN!!!!

Next, I set up a cafepress.com storefront. There's nothing in it just yet, but there will be soon, and hopefully it will bring me a couple extra bucks after the holidays (since I set it up too late to bring me anything for the holidays (jackass).

Okay, think that's about it for now,
~M.

been working on the new layout for the gallery of my web site - trying to make it look more like the rest of the site- and I think that it's there...

I just have to figure out some way of doing specifically defined thumbnails so that I can clean up the 'thumbs' that are auto generated - they're too big and clumsy.
