He used to laugh into the wind. I can remember his bike roaring alongside my own and his laughter rising out above the bellowing of the mighty V-Twins. The laughter was amplified by his barrel chest and sent out into the air like a viking issuing a challenge to the Fates.
He was daring them. He called out and told them to 'bring it on'. He was living entirely for that moment and nothing more. And when they answered his call? That's how he had beaten them. He had taken all he could want from life as the wind whipped through his hair and that beautiful machine growled beneath him. In an instant he had lived more fully than most people will in their entire lives.
He knew freedom.
