Weekend/Last Night in Review
Feb. 20th, 2008 11:53 amAlright - first up is the weekend. Ok, I'm lazy - if you haven't read it yet, go read
xtingu 's recount of this past weekend. Go ahead - I'll wait.
Yeah - it was just that awesome. I love that we both enjoy each other's family so immensely. There's never any sense of "I'd really rather..." when it comes to getting together with the family on either side. It's just "Rock!" I've a feeling that's painfully rare these days. Just one more way in which we're lucky beyond words.
Then last night: Wow. DCAD supported an art event which was open to the public. Basically, they hired a model to come in and pose and they provided a space for artists to come in, plop down, and just drawww. This isn't all that uncommon, and I really should have been doing this sort of thing a LOT more than I have (read as 'at all') but I just didn't.
I haven't done any drawing from life since college. I was painfully out of practice, and I think that it was showing in everything I did.
Last night was a refreshing change from that pace. The model was great, I met new folks (artists no less), and I felt almost immediately at home at DCAD.
xtingu even liked the stuff that I did.
I need to bring better supplies next time. I did fine with the stuff I had on hand, but I really only brought one pencil that was worth a damn and it's a hard leaded pencil. Some wider range in leads and even perhaps some textured paper might be a really good thing.
That's right - I said 'next time'. They're doing this every Tuesday night from 6-9pm now through May 13th (which, coincidentally is
kar0na 's birthday!). It only costs $8 per session. It's uninstructed (which is fun) and they seem like a good group of folks.
I'd love to have some company if any of you would care to join me next week!
Oh, and as I mentioned before - they're also doing a "Draw til You Drop" session on March 8th from noon to midnight.
