I had that happen! There was a vague plasticy burning smell. I turned the computer off for the night, couldn't pinpoint if the smell was the computer or something else (computer was near balcony door that's too close to icky neighbor's balcony).

Computer randomly would not start after that. 'twas a bad power source thingy. So don't make fun of people who smell things burning!
