Heya gang,

I've heard in the past that orkut is spamtastic. Has anyone had personal experience with it?

I set up a profile a while ago and I've been gently adding bits to it without any real increase in spam, so I'm just not sure whether it's because I'm being 'gentle', or if orkut changed something(s) or if it was never that bad to begin with.

It seems to have the funky 'component' add/remove feature that I so enjoy with facebook, and since it's a Google product, I would love to give it a thumbs up (though it never will get that if it really is spamtastic).

I've had an Orkut account for years, during which time, I've logged into it maybe half a dozen times. There's nothing much to do on Orkut, and yes, lots of friend requests from random strangers. I had no idea it was a Google product; it's certainly the most pointless one I know of.

BTW, since it sounds like you're having fun with it, what do you like about it? Am I just missing something?

It does seem a bit dull. There's groups and such, but I haven't found any that are terribly thrilling. I guess I'm just curious why it's kinda the 'red headed step child' of the social network scene. With (what appears to be) the better functions of most (all?) of the others and the "you select what your profile has/does." mentality of Facebook, I think that it looks grand.

*shrugs* Dunno - maybe we're both missing something.

Quite a coinkydink: I was just musing a few hours ago that I should kill off my Orkut account. Yep, spammeriffic, unstable, buggy and annoying.

IMHO, it's one of the only Google apps that earns a genuine FAIL from me... And I heart teh google, BFF!
