mrlich: Photo with great thanks to Joe del Tufo - http://www.deltufophotography.com (Default)
I had an interesting revelation tonight. I stopped at Dick Blick on my way home from work tonight. For anyone who's unfamiliar - it's an art supply place. It's always bittersweet when I walk through those doors - but always inspirational. Bittersweet because, while I find myself foaming at the mouth over all the yummy art goodies, they are expensive as hell, and if I bought everything I would like to, I would be the picture of the 'starving artist'.

And that's what caught my attention. I want it all - all the art supplies I can get my hands on. In fact, I have quite a collection already. Paints, canvasses, pencils, pens, sketchbooks galore, and so very much more. I would say that a solid 75% of it goes unused and just collects dust.

Which is the point of the revelation. I think that it's possible that I have never wanted to be an artist. I think that it's possible that (for whatever reason) I just want the trappings of being an artist. I am almost never without a sketchbook, but how often do I actually sit and sketch??

Odd.

Of course, this prompted me to come home and do some artwork. Turns out this is perfect because my Pop was anxious to finish something that he wanted help with (photo manips) so I got to 'wet my whistle' with that. Then, after finishing that up, I did some minor sketching. Here's the result:

Well... I would have posted the results... but my site seems to be having technical issues. Will post when the site is back up.
