I just read a really fascinating take on the 'new economy' of this digital age by Kevin Kelly (creator of WIRED magazine among other things).

This is a subject matter that I have been finding absolutely fascinating of late, so I thought that I would post a quick link here and ask for your thoughts. You, my Very Smart People™ - I want to hear what you think about this post.

To start us off:

Is there something that you pay for today based on one of the eight generatives that he talks about?

Is there one of the eight that you look for more than the others?

That means more to you personally?

Why?

Speaking of Wired, I just finished the audio version of Chris Anderson's book on Free, which I suspect was somewhat inspired by KK, or perhaps the other way around.

Well worth the 3 hour listen.

Yeah - watched the teaser video. I've downloaded it and will be listening to it tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up!

The last three...Embodiment, Patronage and Findability. Of the three, findability ranks last because I'm pretty good at finding what I want, but am willing to consider paying for some convenience to save time searching. Of the other two, Embodiment is probably the one I would pay extra for most frequently. Live concerts, real books, actual DVD's instead of streaming video. Maybe I'm old school or showing my age but I like the immediacy of actual stuff instead of virtual stuff.

You're not alone sir. I would have to say that (if we're talking purely mass here) the vast majority of what I own is... books. I love the tangibleness.

Yeah - that's right- I said tangibleness!

(Thanks for the feedback!)
